The Journey Towards Self-Actualisation: Becoming and Unbecoming

This series explores the fluid and evolving nature of identity through digital design. Reflecting on personal experiences of cultural identity, external influences, and self-perception, the works examine the relationship between who we were, who we are, and who we are becoming.

Through digital compositions, symbolism, and layered imagery, the series explores identity as a process of transformation rather than a fixed state. Drawing from ideas of cultural preservation, technological influence, and personal reflection, the work questions how we define ourselves while navigating the expectations and influences that shape us.

Petals and Pieces

February 2025

The piece explores the fragmented and layered nature of identity. The collaged elements on the face depict the multiple versions of the self: hidden aspects, presented personas, and the evolving personality. The square motif represents the boxes that we are stuck in. The charcoal background symbolises destruction and renewal while the flowers act as a mask of social ideals. Inspired by Rosanna Jones, the piece reconstructs identity.

Decoded Identity

April 2025

This triptych explores identity in a modern setting where perception and inner truth collide. Through the layered portraits and chaotic text, it asks: Who are we beneath the algorithm? Inspired by Ralph Ueltzhoeffer, the binary code, bold typography and penetrating gazes reflect the tension between who we are, who we present and who is watching. It challenges one to confront their authentic selves when the world is not watching.

Who Do You See?

May 2025

This piece explores how identity is shaped by both self-perception and how others see us. Inspired by a piece from Human After All Agency, I used vibrant question marks—sometimes with images of me alone or with loved ones—to show identity through relationships. The binary background represents outside opinions I choose to ignore, focusing instead on those who truly know and shape me.

Internalised

December 2025

This piece examines how beauty standards in Zimbabwe shape female perception through unsolicited commentary on girls’ bodies and skin tone. Such social judgement has led to harmful practices like skin bleaching. Inspired by Sindiso Nyoni, Paula Scher and Tadonori Yokoo, layered typography, national symbolism and a red psychedelic gradient allows the audience to visualise the commentary’s consequences.

Dear Me

December 2025

This letter to self explores the relationship between present struggle and future identity. The affirmations represent thoughts that project forward, emphasising that identity is in what is yet to be discovered rather than present circumstances. Inspired by Paula Scher, Sindiso Nyoni and Tadanori Yokoo, the piece references the Romans 8:18: For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. (YouVersion, KJV)

I See More Of You In Me

February 2026

This quadriptych serves as a declaration of metamorphosis. As I become older, I become more like my mother who is my inspiration and one of the driving forces that pushes me to succeed. Inspired by Andy Warhol, I reflect on how I wish to become even half the woman she is someday.

I Was, I Am

February 2026

The diptych serves as a mirror that embodies that idea that present self translates to past self. Inspired by Anaglyphs, the piece reminds us that however you view yourself, what was once present still exists within us.

Stuck In The Middle

July 2025

Developed as part of a YYGS 2025 capstone project, Stuck in the Middle explores the experience of existing between cultures, communities, and identities. Although each individual’s journey was different, the shared feeling of being “in between” became the thread that connected us, transforming a sense of displacement into a space of belonging.

For All The Children - Campaign concept · Save the Children PSA

October 2024

Developed in response to a class brief focused on social impact campaigns, Stacey Chirume and I created a campaign concept for Save the Children. “For All The Children: Africa Tour” imagines a benefit concert series in the style of a major global music tour, using the power of entertainment and community to raise awareness and support relief efforts for children affected by conflict in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria. The campaign identity was designed to work across Instagram carousels and large-scale billboard applications, creating a cohesive visual experience across platforms.
