Created as part of the International Baccalaureate’s Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) programme, this mural was designed to celebrate our guidance counsellor as she prepared to welcome her first child. Inspired by My Neighbor Totoro, the beloved Studio Ghibli animated film, the mural captures the warmth, imagination, and sense of comfort that made it the perfect addition to a nursery.
Working alongside a small team over the course of a month, I helped transfer the original concept onto the wall through large-scale sketching before contributing to the painting across six collaborative sessions. As my first mural and first project of this scale, it challenged me to think beyond the canvas, developing an appreciation for collaboration, precision, and the unique relationship between art and physical space.
The completed mural transformed the nursery into a warm and welcoming space, bringing the My Neighbor Totoro concept to life. Both our guidance counsellor and her family were delighted with the final result, making the project a rewarding conclusion to a month of collaboration.
